A thermocouple measures temperature by generating a small voltage at the junction of two dissimilar metals — it is rugged, fast-responding, and works over a very wide range (-200°C to +1260°C). An RTD (Resistance Temperature Detector) measures temperature through electrical resistance change — it is slower but significantly more accurate (±0.1°C), making it the preferred choice for pharmaceutical, food, and laboratory applications.

No — the sensor type must match the controller input. A Type K thermocouple requires a Type K input on your controller. An RTD/PT100 sensor requires an RTD input. Thermelec supplies matched sensor and controller combinations to eliminate compatibility errors.
